The Geography and Tourism laboratory is a research platform for teachers and other personel in geography and tourism.

The lab’s research is divided into numerous specialities, but the common focus of both fields pertains to interaction between nature and societies.

The ever-growing emphasis on environmental issues and sustainability requires a broad approach to solutions to pressing issues, both at the present and in the future.

Bridges are built between social science, humanities and natural science, within the disciplines, in order to obtain the broadest picture of changes in the environment and in society. Data analyses of spatial information are key in this process.

Tourism has become a large-scale industry in Iceland and plays an important part of the utilization of land. Thus the interaction of the industry with other aspects of society, nature and culture has to be researched.
